MotoGp News | Ducati Team makes progress…even in BAD weather.

For the second day running, poor weather conditions affected the MotoGP™ Test at Sepang International Circuit with rain falling shortly after midday. Though the rain stopped in the afternoon, the track remained wet and the Ducati Team was forced to suspend much of their work and wait for tomorrow’s final day of testing.

Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden carried out a number of tests with the electronics today, with both riders reporting positive first impressions and pacing faster than the day before.

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) 5th, 2:01.748 (18 laps):

“The weather hasn’t been kind to us. With my condition, maybe I wasn’t going to be able to do many more laps anyway, but we have a lot of stuff to try. It was definitely cooler today, with more rubber on the track, and we went faster. We made a couple of small steps and I would say today was the most competitive I’ve been all year. I like the changes to the electronics, especially at the first touch of the throttle. We talked about going out in the rain, but the risks seemed to outweigh the rewards. I look forward to tomorrow. Hopefully we can put together all the pieces we’ve learned and do some good lap times.”

Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) 7th, 2:02.130 (18 laps):

“Another day practically lost, which is really a shame because for us it’s very important to ride as much as possible, and today’s track conditions were much better than yesterday’s. Given that we knew rain was predicted for the afternoon, we tried to focus as much work as possible in just the first twenty or so laps this morning. Using both bikes, we tried the new traction control, some software updates with the wheelie control and other small details that have to do with the seating position. I had good impressions with all of those, so we put it all into the setup of just one bike and put on a new tyre, only for it to start raining. Game over. On the plus side, I had a good feeling with all of the new stuff, so I hope we can work a little longer tomorrow.”

WSBK News | One win for Carlos Checa , One win Max Biaggi

Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) recovered from his big race one crash to post his first win of the year but arguably an even greater performance came from second place finisher Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing).

Checa hit the front early on but Biaggi had run of track on lap one, kept his bike upright and restarted last, then fought through to take a second place and a clear championship lead with a total of 45 points.

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) overhauled a slowing Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) in a breathtaking final lap to get his first dry weather Kawasaki podium.

The injured Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) put in a gritty ride to secure fifth place while his team-mate Marco Melandri was one place behind.

Melandri is second in the points to Biaggi with 30, one point ahead of Sykes in overall third. Checa is fourth with 25 points.

Bikefin Honda Pre Race Report | First Zwartkops National

The 2012 South African Supersport Championship kicks off this weekend for the BikeFin Honda

Team, with the season opener at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria-the home track of Anassis Racing.

Team principle, Brad Anassis, is anxious about the teams’ performance since improving each

element of the already winning combination during the summer break. “It doesn’t matter to whom

you talk; you can feel the winning spirit of each individual working in the team. We have grabbed

every opportunity to prepare ourselves for the best shot at the title we’ve ever had.” It is fantastic to

see that we have the prime sponsors available in the industry and they share our winning mentality.

Robbie Petersen, the freshly appointed support advisor to the team, is the silent force behind the

scenes of the Bikefin Honda Team. He reckons that “we have a perfect balance of riders. Lance

Isaacs is extremely experienced and I think he’s riding better than ever. Clint Seller is very talented

and probably the most determined rider I have ever worked with. In Brent and Cam, we have two

of the brightest rising stars. They both have to work through some riding technique issues, but

are lucky to be surrounded by the best support crew this country has to offer. They have every

opportunity to develop into future champions.” The biggest challenge he foresees, personally,

is “getting used to the Ipod music of the boys”.

Lance Isaacs has been training hard with his personal trainer during the long break, and as the

maestro of the team he has only one goal, “opening my 2012 race season account with the

maximum points haul!”

New to the team, Cam Petersen is super excited to have his first race for Anassis Racing on the

Bikefin Honda. He already fell in love with the team and feels extremely privileged to be a part

of it. “My goal is to start off with a couple of consistent rides and then build for the rest of the

season… Don’t expect any fireworks first time out, but by the end of the season I want to be up front

consistently. I am running #7, which my uncle Dave used for most of his racing career.”

Brent Harran has set his mind on racing only for 2012 and “can’t wait to finally claim his maiden win

in the Supersport. I have been so close to my first win, that I am purely focused on materializing it.”

He adds that “2012 is the year that it all has to fall into place.”

Championship runner up, Clint Seller, hasn’t much more to add except that “I want to prove my

worth to my team and sponsors and give them the success they work so hard for”.

On Friday morning when first practice starts, Brad Anassis will know if his endless effort to create the

best team in South African history is working out.

First National @ Zwartkops Raceway is on!

7 Days to GO, before the first practice starts for the 2012 South African Supersport Championship! The BikeFin Honda Racing team wish the moment was there already…

“We are good to go for Zwartkops”

Zwartkops Raceway was inspected on the 21st of Febuary to find out if it is safe and adequate to race on after some people argued that it was not. Clint Seller (BikeFin Honda Rider) went down and did 10 inspection laps at full throttle and didn’t see any problems. So, in 10 days time, it’s Zwartkops time!

Bring on the 2012 season

WSKB News | Top step in testing for Kawasaki rider Sykes

Tom Sykes was ultimately the man of the moment in two days of Superbike testing at Phillip Island, the Kawasaki man holding onto the top slot in today’s warmer afternoon session that saw only two riders improve. Sykes’s time of 1 minute 31.648 seconds remains the benchmark as the riders now gear up for the opening round of the 2012 FIM Superbike World Championship this coming weekend.

Second place overall went to 2011 champion Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati), who ended up just a whisker behind. The Spaniard set the quickest time of the warmer afternoon session and then packed up for the rest of the day. Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Team Effenbert) was third on another Ducati 1098R, not far off the pace of the top 2, while Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike) was the only other rider to get into the 1 minute 32 seconds bracket.

Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing) showed remarkable consistency as he took the fifth slot, while Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad) failed to improve on day 2 and his time set yesterday was good enough for sixth. Superbike rookie Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) crashed harmlessly for the fourth time in this test but was impressive enough for seventh, while Leon Camier (Crescent Suzuki) completed the top 8.

After five days of testing – private and official – the Superbike teams and riders now have a chance to wind down before opening round action begins on Friday.
