:::S.A Riders Shine in Sapin:::4 Local riders made South Africa proud in Spain this weekend during the 8th round of the 2012 World SBK Championship. David McFadden qualified in 11th for the 1000cc Super Stock race. He then managed to impress the world even more by finishing 8th in the race on Sunday morning. | Ronan Quarmby got a good start and after lap 6 was settling in 8th position, with 11 laps to go it was Sofuoglu in first, Morais in second ,Sam Lowes in 3rd and Fabien Foret in 4th. Quarmby was in 7th half way through the race and Morais was 4th having a good battle with the likes of his team mate Sofuoglu, Lowes and Foret. Morais then had bad luck when he wanted to pass his team mate for third and had to go off track, that pushed him down to 5th.
Quarmby was making up positions and was sitting in 6th with only 4 laps to go; he was 7 seconds behind Morais in 5th. Kenan Sofuoglu was then given a 3 position dock penalty for a very dangerous head but move on Fabien Foret. The final results saw Sam Lowes (Honda CBR600RR) won the race with Fabien Foret (Kawasaki ZX-6R) in second and Sheridan Morais (Kawasaki ZX-6R) in third place. Broc Parkes finished 4th with Kenan Sofuoglu in 5th and Ronan Quarmby with an impressive 6th. Words by Donovan Denoon |
